Willing-Booher transforms unflattering, inanimate and living subjects into dynamic watercolor paintings. Taking our human perception of nature further into simple expressive shapes and lines. Utilizing creative composition, stroke and color she makes the commonplace captivating. Her images challenge societies view of what is considered beautiful.
Denise was born in Flint, Michigan. Her artist process began as a child watching her father and grandfather create stain glass windows and glass cut work. As a child she was inspired by classes her mother put her in at the Flint Institute of Arts. She received her BFA from the University of Michigan with post graduate work at Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University. Denise resides in Fenton with her husband and two children. Now, her primary source of inspiration for her watercolors comes from living by marsh lands, rich with vegetation and birds, as well as the beauty of nature and life around her.
Denise paints, teaches and displays her work in juried, solo and group shows. She has won regional and local juried and people’s choice awards. Denise’s paintings are in numerous corporate and private art collections. Denise is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and the NWS 1st VP–Awards as well as the President of the Michigan Water Color Society.
